Take Root Therapy January Newsletter

We talk about emotion dysregulation, raise funds for our beloved immigrant communities, and learn tools for soothing nighttime anxiety.

A Letter From Our Founder

Hi reader,

It’s hard to know where to start this letter.

I feel myself being pulled in so many directions, and that’s become more and more common these days. I want to offer you comfort and hope. I want to sit and have honest conversations. I want to grieve and hold all that we are feeling. I want to stay in bed and cry. I also want to distract myself, to look away, to scroll endlessly. And underneath it all, I want to connect.

My heart has been heavy. Sleep has been hard to access. And I know I’m not alone. I’ve been struggling to make meaning of what has been happening in our country, struggling to find the right actions, and struggling to take care of everything I need to take care of.

So I’m starting where I can: taking care of myself and my nervous system, so that I can keep showing up for my basic responsibilities and my larger community.

Our blog article this month is about feeling out of control and learning to regulate when we are dysregulated. If that’s what you’re needing right now, I hope it helps. And if there’s more you need, including support with fear and uncertainty or anything else, please know that we are here. You can reach out to us at info@takeroottherapy.com or call/text us at (323) 388-5578.

Warmly,
Saba Harouni Lurie (she/her/hers)

What Is Emotional Dysregulation? Signs, Causes, and Tools That Actually Work When You Feel Out of Control

Yesterday morning, my daughter and I were running late to school. Again. The crosswalk light was blinking as we approached the busy intersection near our home in Los Angeles, and she started to dart across the street. “I don’t want to be late!” she yelled over her shoulder. My body reacted before my brain caught up. My heart lurched, my breath caught, and I screamed at her to stop. Not a calm, measured “please wait,” but a full-throated yell fueled by the terror of watching her run toward traffic…

Attune 1.0

Connecting LA through the art of sound

Sound and light frequencies are the basic building blocks of life. In a moment where we need to engage in positive connection, we bring a multi-disciplinary project that activates, harmonizes, and synchronizes locations and communities throughout the diverse landscapes of Los Angeles.

The time is NOW

Each site will host a speaker array and light sculpture that will amplify frequencies and compositions by acclaimed talent so we can tune into ourselves and experience a collective sound journey.

WE ARE A RESILIENT COMMUNITY

This network will link one location to the other and provide attendees with a synchronized sonic connection to each other. All of the sound art programs will play simultaneously, so attendees will experience the exhibit together, in unity across the County of Los Angeles.

Together, we can manifest an intentional and positive moment of solidarity through sound and art.

Free to the public, the goal is to create a sense of unity through a shared experience. First two hundred attendees at each location will be given a limited special edition Valentine’s Day card made by some of your favorite acclaimed locally based artists – to be announced soon.

RSVP for updates and more. Stay tuned for location announcements! Interested in learning more? Email us at info@nowartpublic.com. Sign up to volunteer here: https://forms.gle/TyzRmFogGfYfVkYi8!
