Take Root Therapy February Newsletter

We reflect on expectations, connect locally, and learn how to address stonewalling.

A Letter From Our Founder

Hi there,

I hope you’re finding ways to take care of yourself and hold onto moments of joy, especially with how heavy things have felt lately. As we transition from February into March, I want to take a moment to acknowledge Black History Month and reaffirm that our LGBTQ+ community matters. No matter what’s happening around us, our care and commitment to you will never waver.

The past couple of months have made me rethink so many things I once took for granted—including where we feel safe and what we can count on. Through it all, I’ve found the greatest sense of grounding in my relationships—the ones I’ve nurtured with intention and the ones where I know that same care is reciprocated.

And that’s what this month’s blog article is all about. Our expectations in relationships—how they shape our relationships, what happens when they go unspoken, and how we can navigate them with more clarity and compassion. Now that Valentine’s Day is behind us, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what we need from the people in our lives and how we can create more fulfilling connections.

If this is something that has been on your mind, I hope you’ll give it a read. And if you need help with this topic, or with anything else, we hope you reach out. You can contact us via email at info@takeroottherapy.com or by phone/text at (323) 388-5578.

Warmly,
Saba Harouni Lurie (she/her/hers)

Are Your Expectations Helping or Hurting Your Relationships?: Understanding the Role of Expectations, Needs, and Standards in Building Healthy Relationships

I grew up in a home where birthdays and holidays weren’t a big deal. We would generally have small birthday gatherings with family. However, I can remember one specific birthday when I convinced my parents to invite a ton of girls from my grade over for a slumber party…

How to Help

Good+Foundation Community Volunteer Day

Volunteers will sort and bundle donations. All of the projects volunteers work on will support families living in poverty throughout Los Angeles, including those impacted by the recent wildfires in Southern California, as part of our crisis relief efforts.

Good+Foundation is a leading national non-profit that works to dismantle multi- generational poverty by pairing tangible goods with innovative services for low- income fathers, mothers, and caregivers, creating an upward trajectory for the whole family. We do this by pairing goods – such as cribs, car seats, and diapers – with counseling, employment assistance, co-parenting classes, and more. With operations in New York City and Los Angeles, Good+Foundation has provided more than $95 million in essential goods since 2001.

Donations From Event: Proceeds collected will support Eaton Wildfire Black Entrepreneurs impacted so they can continue to rebuild and restore their businesses.

An evening where visionaries, artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and thought leaders come together to celebrate Black History Month while crafting the future. In the aftermath of the Eaton Wildfire, our community showed its strength. Now it’s time to transform that resilience into renaissance. It’s time to build connections that will last and bloom into an ecosystem instead of a moment or memory in history. Are you in?
