Take Root Therapy March Newsletter

We take a look at how setting boundaries can be a form of self care, discover what we can learn from this Women’s History Month, and rally support for Ukraine.

A Letter From Our Founder

Hi folks,

What a month. The Russian invasion of Ukraine started shortly after our last newsletter went out, and the attacks against trans teens and the LGBTQIA+ community have continued at home. In addition, it has been a year since the Atlanta spa shootings, and the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities in the US continue to face violent attacks. This has led to a constant buzz of concern and anxiety in my mind and body, and I know I’m not alone in feeling that. Reading the news in the mornings is hard, and it can be difficult to keep moving forward.

And at the same time, the flowers continue to bloom all over Los Angeles. The large drop in covid cases has encouraged many to enjoy time with friends and outside. Life hasn’t stopped, nor should it.

If you find that the news of the countless injustices are making it hard for you to continue showing up for your own life and for others, then boundaries may be in order. I have tried to limit my news exposure, in order to keep myself from being paralyzed by fear or hopelessness. That doesn’t mean sticking my head in the sand, but it means taking care of myself so that I can continue to show up for myself and for the people and causes I care about. Our blog article this month is all about boundaries- what they mean and how they work. If you need some support when it comes to establishing boundaries, or need support in general, please reach out. Our email address is info@takeroottherapy and we can be reached by phone or text at (323) 388-5578. We are here.

Warmly,
Saba Harouni Lurie

How Do I Set Boundaries?: Learning to Care for Yourself by Advocating for Your Needs

We communicate so much through the boundaries we set within our lives: what our values are, what we’re comfortable with, what we feel about any given relationship or topic, and yet, they can be so hard to establish and even harder to maintain…

How to Help

March is Women’s History Month

It’s 2022 and we’re still celebrating women’s firsts. Kamala Harris became the first woman to be elected Vice President of the United States, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala became the first woman to hold the office of the Director General of the World Trade Organization and there are so many more firsts yet to be accomplished. It’s also 2022 and we’re still debating a woman’s right to choose.

This Women’s History Month we encourage you to educate yourself about those past struggles to better understand how far we’ve come and just how far we still have to go before we can truly call ourselves equal. Click here and here to learn more about some of the remarkable achievements made by women throughout history and here to learn how you can help stop the infringement of women’s right here in the US.

Help Fight Against Anti-Trans Policies in Texas

Equality Texas is the largest trans rights advocacy organization in the state and they’re doing amazing work in Texas and across the country to increase trans visibility and LGBTQIA+ education. They could use your help, from donations to phone banking to data entry, anything you could do to contribute could make a world of difference in this fight to ensure the rights of trans people everywhere.

You can also take up this call to action making your voice heard. Contact Gov. Greg Abbott’s office here. Write to major Texas companies Dell, AT&T, and American Airlines. Post about this on your social media. Talk about this with your friends and families. Don’t allow this to stand, not in Texas or anywhere else.
